[/div] so simple and innocent, so simple and innocent, so simple an innocent... [/div] Night had begun to fall in the furthest part of the outskirts. Sakura Kimori, the second in command of all werewolves, had decided to take a stroll along the gravel paths of the Underground. Her mind was clustered with questions that continued to be unanswered. Raiden, her mate, the love of her life, had committed such terrible acts that she had not realized. He buried his own brother alive. She couldn't understand nor comprehend why he would do such a thing. The Raiden she had known, was gentle and loving, yet had a hard time expressing his feeings. Perhaps there is more to him than she knew to begin with, she thought.
Her mind began to wander to Risk Valkiri, the exiled male that was defeated by her mate. When she realized his feelings for her, her heart was shattered with guilt. Running a hand through her hair, she could feel the hot tears begin to form. How could she not have seen it? How could she have been so oblivious to his feelings for her? Was she really that heartless and cruel? She knew that she was placing a much heavier burden on her shoulders than she should, yet she still blamed herself for everything that has happened.
Glaring at the ground, she stopped in her tracks to wipe away the tears that threatened to fall. "Damn..." she cursed under her breath. Now was not the time to feel sorry for herself, she thought. Despite feeling such guilt in her heart for what's happened to Risk and Raiden, she had to pull herself together. She was second in command, for heaven's sake. She needed to regain her compulsure. Staring up at the bright cresent moon above her, she let herself give in to the wolf side of her, causing her to shift forms.
Her pure white fur glistened under the moonlight, and her bright blue eyes directly at the moon. Even if it wasn't fulll, she felt the urge to let out a mighty yet sorrowful howl. Howling was a way of releasing tension for her. Lowering her head, she inhaled deeply then gazed heavenward, unleashing a loud howl. [atrb=cellSpacing,20,true][atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, width: 410px; background-image: url(http://i53.tinypic.com/2mgulnm.jpg), bTable][cs=2]I AM NOT A BAD MAN, EVEN THOUGH I DO BAD THINGS very bad things, such horrible things | The sound was an insignificant noise to him; nothing that needed much of a mind to pay any attention to. Though Raiden was well adjusted with a vast multitude of clatter –and rather enjoyed it– he was always quite puzzled at the sound of his own flesh being scraped away. He never questioned the idea, and instead resumed the over lapping motion that would drag his claws against the same stomach area again…and again. In some cases, a sick animal would often self mutilate when found in a pit of unbelievable stress, so couldn’t this method of grotesque relief apply to one who is half beast? Such a habit seemed rather unwholesome to Raiden, what with being a well respected and feared wolf leader he was expected to maintain cleanly practices. Fortunately for him, “cleanly practises” hadn’t exactly been the main available option even as a child. As such, he remained unbothered by keeping to the habit (though wouldn’t readily announce he took up the particular practise).
Each scrape created an odd disturbance within his room, the white painted walls acting like a flat surfaced mirror that would simply reflect the noise back into his ear canal. Raiden ceased his claws momentarily to merely listen for the absence of such a sound, taking into account the daily movements of his pack mates below. The space to which he currently resided within was empty, Sakura’s presence long since gone by the time he had risen from sleep. Finding this rather unusual of his mate, Raiden had taken a moment (not moving from his placement in bed), to mull over several different possibilities. He was satisfied to know that there wasn’t a reason to panic, the simple fact being that the air remained free of any distress scents. However, he was curious to know exactly why she had left base camp entirely. “how curious…”
Leaving the comfort of his bed, Raiden crossed over to the elaborately lit bathroom to wash his fingers of any staining blood, wiping a wet sponge over his stomach in order for the open wound to remain safe from infection. As an extra added precaution, he sifted through a small cabinet to pull out a roll of gauze, wrapping the white strip around his mid section so that the fabrics of his shirts would not irritate and cause the scratches to become inflamed. Satisfied to a certain degree, Raiden exited the space to change himself appropriately, layering on a second jacket as he recognized that the nights were usually cooler.
His departing steps met with the descending stairs, Raiden’s pace relaxed and unbothered as he reached the main floor. A few passing pack members preparing themselves for the night presented their leader with respectful bows and murmured greetings. He responded to each with a wide smile and slight wave of his hand. These were all the fools that had once been loyal to Risk Valkiri, the young pup who had no right to lead an entire party of werewolves in his young standing. He had been nothing but a sore to his eyes, Raiden challenging him for claims over Sakura and the entire pack. Just because he had no interest in the universe and it’s inhabitants, that of course didn’t rule out the idea of a little fun before this world would one day burn in it’s own putrid ways. Even Este were delicate creatures, and they too would befall a similar demise.
The open atmosphere was glorified with the sounds of a chirping symphony, crickets springing past his nose to land in brushes of deep greens. Night was truly a livelier time, creatures breathing within shadows cast by trees, unafraid to show their passion glowing eyes to a wide spectrum of individuals. There were a handful of sights and sounds…the mournful howl of a familiar voice claimed Raiden’s attention, his gaze drifting toward the direct path that would inevitably lead him to his mate. Small grin stretching across his lips, he shifted in his wandering steps to take the route where the cry had originated from, keeping his step light and muffled so as not to disturb. Glancing at a familiar figure through the foliage, her snout pointed up, maws hanging slightly apart, Sakura sang to the stars and moon with a heavily burdened tone.
Raiden remained in his crouched posture for a stretch of time, listening to the pitch of such a magnificent sound leaving the strong cords of his mate. He concluded that after some passing ticks it would be an appropriate moment to make his presence known. Pushing past the greenery, Raiden stepped toward Sakura with a light expression upon his face, the corners of his mouth pinched into an ever present smile. “That is quite a remarkable voice you possess. It never fails to amaze me…” He paused to lower himself to her level, head tilted somewhat off to the side in a curious manner. “But what puzzles me is that it sounds rather cheerless…why is that?” |
A hand was lifted to rest gently by the side of Sakura’s head, his thumb raised to flick her soft furred ear. “Hmn…in any case it is rather cold. luckily I am wearing two jackets, so you may borrow this one. It would be quite the pity if you fell ill.” Kissing the very tip of Sakura’s wet nose, Raiden stood to shrug out of the extra layer, pushing it down into his hands to offer it to his mate. “Unless of course you are satisfied in your wolf form, I shall hold onto it until you find a need for it.” He folded his arms neatly by his front, still gripping onto the jacket with an air of complete content as he waited for Sakura’s next movements. [/div] so simple and innocent, so simple and innocent, so simple an innocent... [/div] Sakura's howl ceased at the sound of her mate's voice, ears tucking back in appreciation at his compliment. Closing her eyes at the feel of his lips pecking her wet nose, she began wagging her tail happily like a dog, then shifting into her human form, her long hair falling to her hips as she accepted his jacket, drapping it over her shoulders then gazed him.
She remembered the question and her bright blue eyes gazed into his pale violet ones. "I've just been thinking, that's all..." she said simply, sitting beside her mate and leaning against him. She sniffed the air, smelling blood. Turning to her mate quickly, she instantly opened up his shirt, seeing the gauze wrapped around his mid-torso. She could smell blood coming from there and her eyes began to tremble as she realized what he had done; he was mutilizing himself again.
Running a hand down his wrapped up stomach, she looked up at her mate with sad eyes. "Why must you bring yourself pain, love?" she whimpered, looking down at his stomach before leaning down to kiss the gauze. She unwrapped the gauze to reveal fresh scratches on his stomach. Tears began to form in her eyes as she leaned in, kissing each and every scar visible on his stomach. After doing so, she rested her forehead against his chest, her heartbreak evident as she clung to his shirt.
"It hurts to know that you do this to yourself..." she whispered, kissing his chest before looking up at him. "I don't understand why you carry such self-hatred... Hatred so strong that you injure yourself like this..." she spoke, her heart aching at her own words, eyes searching his. "When I heard you say... that you deserved to die... It made me want to prove you wrong." She held his face, kissing his forehead.
"I told you this once, and I will not hesitate to remind you again," she placed a kiss on his blind eye. "I will not allow you to do or say such things about yourself..." she kissed his other eye. "I have found my reason for living, Raiden... And he is right before my eyes..." she said, before opening her eyes to look deeply into his, her lips mere inches from his own. "So let me be... your reason for living..." TAGS: Raiden Ibushi WORD COUNT: 386 MUSE: Awake and Alive ~ Skillet NOTES: Hey, no worries! a sharp twinge moved through his body, violet eyes shifting down to the source of the pain to find that his jacket and top layers had been undone without his knowledge, Sakura’s fingertips brushing down the tight wrap of white gauze. her questioning tone dropped heavily against the back of his head, Raiden lifting himself to properly gaze into her bright blues. “pain? i feel none at the moment. though i would app—” cut mid-speech, Sakura had leaned into his stomach to kiss the white strips before neatly undoing them. a second twitch of discomfort claimed him as her lips touched sections of the open flesh, salted tears grazing the raw wound. “love…” |
Raiden lifted his hand, speaking through gritted teeth as Sakura moved from her previous position to lean against his bare chest, speaking into the pale skin with evident sorrow tipping her words. “ah, but you see it is merely a stress habit. that is very different from self hatred…though i suppose i become rather conflicted at times.” her words continued to thump relentlessly against the back of his head, Raiden being unable to pin point the particular emotion as Sakura’s fingers shifted smoothly to hold either side of his face, kissing him neatly upon the forehead. his breathing hitched at the proximity of both their forms, each index twitching against the soil and grass underneath. the overpowering desire to skin his stomach section pumped thick blood throughout his veins, the sensation much too hot to appreciate. “i didn’t necessarily expect you to understand those words…nor had i intended for you to hear them.” Raiden could not help but state this rather simply as he wished for his mate to portray him with a well structured sense of thought and perspective. hearing a confession such as deserving to die would surely confuse her…and he did not blame Sakura for being upset. the light touch of a kiss was graced directly upon his blind eye, affectionate words brushing sweetly across his pale skin as Sakura moved to place another to his second gaze, her lips practically touching his own. Raiden sighed heavily into the close space shared between them, his hand lifting to gently push against her shoulder in order to slowly create a larger gap. enough space to himself, he leaned forward and pressed his lips to her forehead before slipping away to stand by his mate’s seated form. “your words are kind…so very kind.” looking down at his stomach, Raiden began to steadily wrap the white gauze strips back around the flesh wounds, tying a neat knot at the side to secure the hold. “but the fact remains that i do not plan on doing such a thing as killing myself. i merely suggested at the fact that it was deserved, not necessarily meaning i wished for it to be so.” he took a few steps away from the oak to begin doing his shirt and jacket up, feeling his chest warm once shielded from the night’s cool bite. “i apologize if i gave you any cause to worry.” popping the collar of his shirt, he ran a single hand through bleach white locks, reflecting silently on the words he had only moments ago spoken. Raiden was indeed sincere about his request for forgiveness, though wasn’t entirely sure if it would be accepted given the fact he had pushed Sakura a few paces back in her search for comfort. it wasn’t that he didn’t wish to ease her troubles, he just found it rather difficult when the conversation was directed to his bad habits. to him, they were things that were better left uncared for. “in an attempts to change the topic…i’ve noticed that you have yet to explain to me why it is you left so early from bed. i find it rather shaking to find you absent when i wake without a single trace of your whereabouts.” Raiden’s tone was light and even, though he was sure there was a hint of worry mixed in. to create the image of one who was more approachable, he placed a simple smile across his lips, the ends curling slightly. “i am not angry…just rather curious.” he crossed his arms and placed his chin into the palm of his hand, angling the elbow in such a way that would allow Raiden to pose himself without sitting. if he was correct in assuming so, Sakura’s inner thoughts stretched further then the words she had previously spoken. [/div] so simple and innocent, so simple and innocent, so simple an innocent... [/div] Sakura frowned as he pushed her slightly away, but softened her gaze as he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. She heard his words about not planning on killing himself, and a smile creased her lips, a wave of relief washing over her. "Perhaps I'm worrying too much." she said, watching him. She then heard him ask why he had found her gone. She looked down, unsure if she should say. She sighed slightly in relief when he said that he wasn't angry, only curious. She took a deep breath then released it slowly, looking up at him
"I've just been... thinking about my past." she started, looking down at the ground once more. "I've been having dreams of reliving the day my pack was killed..." she added, wincing at the memory. "There are times when I blame myself for not being able to stop the hunters. But what could I have done? I was just a pup..."
She glared at herself as she wiped away the forming tears. "There are times when I start questioning my abilities as second in command... What if I'm put into a situation where I can't even protect my pack?" she said, hair hiding her face now.
"So far... All I've ever done is cause trouble, and get myself hurt... And I end up worrying you.." she added, looking slightly to reveal the threatening tears. "Maybe I'm just... not worthy." he followed by tapping the side of his head, indicating that it could be damaging to the mind. Raiden however remained silent through the next span of time, Sakura’s voice drifting up through a strained set of vocal cords. he was aware of her sadness, the emotion all too visible in how she stood, both eyes directly looking toward the ground. she then began to speak of her childhood pack, of how they were killed and her strength too meek to properly fight back against those that murdered in cold blood. “it must be terrible to dream of such things every night.” he nodded slowly, Raiden’s voice softer than before as he attempted at soothing his mate’s troubled mind. a change in tone took place suddenly, his thin brows pinching at the center of his forehead when Sakura began to speak of weakness. weakness in herself for not being able to aid her pack when the situation cried out for help. dropping the stance he held, Raiden crossed both arms to stare directly at his mate’s fair face, her eyes set into a self hated glare. “come now, what is this nonsense you speak of? as you said so yourself, you were merely just a pup when the hunters attacked your pack! no one would expect anything from someone at an age so young. do not blame yourself for being unable to do things beyond your power!” the level of strength he put into his voice rose slightly higher than before, Raiden’s speech holding a slight edge to it though he remained within the boundaries of soft comfort. he did not wish to frighten her, nor was it in his intention to lay down a stretching lecture. however, things proved to be a bit more tasking than thought, Sakura continuing to verbally beat down her sense of self worth with poisonous words. a huff of displeasure left Raiden’s throat, his purple eyes narrowing when Sakura bent her head to hide her face, long streaks of pink dangling neatly from off rounded shoulders. he honestly could not grasp at what she way saying, all those words of self pity and hate quite frankly making him sick to his stomach. why of all times now was she speaking such things!? it should be quite clear that Sakura’s position as second in command was a true one, otherwise he would not have bothered to keep her his mate, probably throwing her in the same pile as Risk when he took over the werewolf pack. “so, what you are trying to put forth in this is that you are an unworthy being all because you were inept at saving your pack? and this all took place when you were nothing but a pup.” a short stream of air was released, Raiden rolling his shoulders as he began to take slow pacing steps from tree to tree, all the while keeping Sakura under his steady gaze. there was much to say in a situation like this, all of his rampant thoughts begging to be spoken as they dripped across the surface of his tongue. keeping his steps well timed, Raiden ventured closer to Sakura, his arms now resting neatly by either side of him. he held his level stare when she looked up to meet with him, the underneath of both her eyes rimmed red and raw from the tears and constant rubbing. extending his arm, Raiden propped his finger by his mate’s chin, lifting it slightly in order for her damped skin to catch the rays of collecting moonlight. “forgive me if i am wrong…” he whispered in a quieter tone, Raiden’s expression revealing nothing of his current feelings. “but if that is not the reason than i do not see why you are speaking such things of yourself. previously you told me that you didn’t wish to hear of my self hatred…but what of your own? standing here, you have the gall to beat yourself down in such a way when you’ve just recently forbid i do so to myself.” his finger trailed up the side of Sakura’s face, idly wiping away a few of her tears. Raiden’s features remained void to any description of an emotion that possessed a name, his blind eye closing when he continued on in speech. “all aspiring leaders make mistakes, they worry those close to them, and they will from time to time find themselves in a bit of trouble. that however does not mean you are a failure.” bending lower, Raiden placed a gentle kiss upon Sakura’s lips, the moment lingering for a few minutes as he drew forth her sweetened scent. the perfumed smell of flowers was not his favourite, but he found it tolerable in knowing that it was his mate who wore such a scent. eventually, he pulled away and took small retreating steps back, his arms once again rested on either side of him. “but if that is the way you wish to see yourself…then so be it. unfortunately, i will not have a weak mind second leading my pack. Sakura, it is up to you to find your own strength and prove those negative words wrong…i do not wish to lose you, but i cannot have this doubt spread. it is your own undoing, not mine. i am sorry if i seem cruel to you, but i will not feed you courage that you already have through a silver spoon.” from where he was standing, Raiden extended his arm to offer Sakura his upturned hand, fingers splayed outward. he held her in an unwavering stare, his posture pushed into a straight stand when he spoke his next words. “i give you my hand as an aid in strength, but do not take it if you are going to be using it as a constant crutch. i will be there for you when you need me most, but not every hour and most certainly not when you are speaking about yourself in such a way. not worthy. only desperate people say such things! though…if you are capable of uttering something like that, then maybe i was wrong about you…Sakura, are you desperate?” the wind picked up and tore through Raiden’s hair and clothing, shattering the serene picture that once stood in the small moon washed clearing. [/div] so simple and innocent, so simple and innocent, so simple an innocent... [/div] Sakura flinched barely noticeably at the sound of her mate's tone. He had every right to be angry, she thought. What she spoke of would make anybody angry. After a few moments of letting his words sink in, she felt him lift her chin up to gaze into his eyes. Feeling his thumb wipe away her tears, she softened her gaze as his lips touched hers, returning his kiss for only a brief moment before he pulled away. He was right, she thought. Why would she even think such things to begin with...?
Seeing him extend his hand to her, she looked up at him to hear his words. Was she desperate...? Looking down for a moment, she began to think. Was she really using his aid of strength as a crutch, just like he said? Shaking her head to herself, she smiled a little. "I must seem very pathetic... for thinking such foolish things. she spoke as she looked up at him with a smile filled with confidence, taking his hand and got back on her feet.
"I apologize... for putting you through that," she said, looking down at the ground for a moment. "I was not myself... It was a moment of weakness that should've never happened." Looking back up at him, her smile turned soft as she kissed his cheek, resting her forehead on his shoulder. "Thank you... for helping open my eyes." she told him gently, before pulling away with her hands folded behind her back, a smile on her face.
